Spiritual Enlightenment, Spiritual Development, Spirituality
What is spiritual enlightenment? What does it mean to be enlightened? How do I find the path to enlightenment? All these questions are becoming increasingly relevant in a world which has worshipped the god of materialism for some time now. Movements for change often have an underlying longing for spiritual awakening to counter the seemingly blind control of market forces. The practise of spirituality is one which is widely sought through a variety of meditation techniques, movements for spiritual growth, spiritual books, spiritual retreats and so on. Many people feel they need advice on how to meditate; they look for spiritual help, for a spiritual guide. And of course there are plenty of experts ready to jump in and fill that gap. Spiritual prayers abound in the atmosphere of personal growth and spiritual development.
The path of spiritual enlightenment brings potentialities for evolving which lie beyond anything we can imagine. Fearlessness, perseverance, an unwavering devotion to truth are just three of the qualities the spiritual seeker needs to develop. An artistic sensibility, love for the living and respect for the whole of life are essential attributes. Above all, a love for the true soul or self of humanity is the illumination on the path to enlightenment. In a sense the word ‘enlightenment’ is deceptive – it is more accurate to talk in terms of strength, love and wisdom. What is at stake is not so much a personal goal as the willingness to let the higher world find a place in your heart, in your being. In this sense I believe that spiritual enlightenment is actually the meaning of evolution – at least as it must take place in the future. Spiritual development – or evolution – is the upward path for humanity, not a blind metamorphosing from one physical state to another.
The poems and commentaries in Light on the Page are the author’s attempt to embody the process of spiritual enlightenment in an artistic form. This is a spiritual process in itself. The art of finding words and concepts is an element in the path to enlightenment if it is taken in a sincere way. Sincerity and truthfulness come first – not a desire for status or acclamation. That is why the sub-heading of Light on the Page is ‘a path to enlightenment in words’ – the poet’s forming of words is a method of spiritual development. It always has been so since the earliest works of literature: the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Odyssey, the Bhagavad Gita – these works all embody what they describe, and I can think of no higher task than to aspire to that. I can only speak of the works published here in terms of aspiration; their success or otherwise is up to others to decide. But in so far as their sincerity and truthfulness is apparent – and their true, burning love for the ideal – they are bound to have some effect on the reader who is also a follower of the path of spiritual enlightenment.
Spirituality and spiritual development are essential themes in most, if not all, of the articles to be found in this site. I choose to be my own spiritual guide here; the higher mind itself is the place of spiritual retreats and the starting point of the spiritual journey. My own way is to deal with this poetically. I include some links below to a few of the items in the category of spiritual enlightenment and spiritual development.

Just as we are taught to develop our mind and intellect, we can learn to utilize our intuition to receive guidance. Understanding the mind, and the emotions and their physical cleansing leads to enlightenment of the soul. Thank you for the article
