Dreams and Dreams

There are two different kinds of dreams: the ones we have at night and the ones we hold in our hearts as wish or aspiration. Sometimes with this second kind we hardly dare utter it, as its fulfillment seems too remote. But the earth knows it – it hears and holds the secret. Dreams in this sense may seem lost and buried, long-dead. And yet at the same time if you have confessed them in your innermost heart the earth will have heard. The other kind of dream is modulated by life. The subconscious mind relays our experience back to us in images. These pictures reveal – often in highly complicated sequences – what our needs and wishes really are. The two kinds of dream are therefore related. They both refer to the secrets of the heart and in both cases life holds the key.

When dreams have gone, the ground they danced on seems empty, trodden down and bare. The earth seems hard, the brain itself unsuited to breathe their air. But the spinner of dreams – of both kinds – lives in me. It lies within my power to bind the truth with leaps of light. The brain and the earth itself may be set free, if I, as a dreamer, can learn to fill my dreams with inner sight.

In the normal course of events my dreams float around me and haunt the air – vistas of the future, unattainable peaks. And while I keep them tucked away, the earths I walk through remain mine alone, and no one speaks. The dreams themselves are, or should be, the common air we breathe, lest the earth grows hard and sterile. But then I have to become the master of them, to give them life and breath, to find the ear that can hear them. That done, all their silence plunges into sound – I attain to the highest peak and dream my dreams in the open light.

Long ages of life might go by before the earth deems the time is right for me to set my dreams free. I may have forgotten them, I may have confessed them to the earth so long ago I believed they were lost forever. But life holds the key. Experience raises me to the point where I can realize their prize and treasure – perhaps in a different form, one I had not expected. And if earth has held those dreams then. by and by, their value will be estimated true.

Dreamers

Now dreams must roll away to leave the ground

they danced on empty, trodden down and bare.

So what remains? – imagination bound

to earth? a brain not shaped to breathe their air?

I have the spinner of those dreams in me,

the one who binds the truth with leaps of light.

The brain, the earth may also be set free,

if dreamers learn to dream with inner sight.

Unbound

Whatever floats around me haunts the air -

dreams and vistas, unattainable peaks.

And with these in my keep I walk elsewhere,

through earths I own myself, where no one speaks.

Yet give them life and breath, an ear to hear,

and all their silence plunges into sound

I stand on highest peak and feel no fear,

when in the light I dream my dreams unbound.

Value

Confessions to the earth, I pledge my dreams -

the maker of their secrets, life the key.

And earth holds them in trust until it deems

the time is right for me to set them free.

Then let me raise their treasure to the sky

and win their long-forgotten prizes too.

And if the earth has held them, by and by

their value will be estimated true.

Best wishes, today,

Landar
